MMBT by Metro CAD Pushes the Limits of Micro-Braiding — See the Record-Breaking Braider Live at MD&M Midwest

The world’s smallest braid — and the machine that made it — are coming to Minneapolis!

MMBT by Metro CAD is redefining what’s possible in precision wire braiding and medical device manufacturing. Join us at MD&M Midwest, October 21–22, at the Minneapolis Convention Center, Booth 3801, to see the braider that produced the world’s first 11-micron braid — live and up close.

Setting a New World Record in Micro-Braiding

It wasn’t science fiction — it was Scott, back at it again, braiding 11-micron (0.00043") 304NX BenderWire™ supplied by Sebastian Ablas of Stamm-wire, Germany.

Using our MMBT16CHFWB, a standard, unmodified 16-carrier horizontal wire braider, Scott achieved a 16-wire, 1-over-2-under-2 pattern at 50 picks per inch (PPI) on a 0.056" Delrin core — marking the first successful 11-micron braid ever produced.

This record-setting achievement demonstrates what’s possible when precision engineering meets innovation. It’s another step forward in the evolution of micro-braiding technology for catheters, guidewires, and miniature medical devices.

What You’ll See at MD&M Midwest

Stop by Booth 3801 to:

  • See MMBT16CHFWB braider — the same unmodified machine that made the world’s first 11-micron braid
  • Explore measurement microscopes used for ultra-precise inspection, imaging, and process validation
  • Step inside our mock modular cleanroom, designed for scalable manufacturing environments
  • Meet Scott, who will be on hand demonstrating the 16-carrier braider that made history

Our MMBT by Metro CAD team will also be available to answer your questions about braiders, microscopes, and modular cleanroom systems, and discuss how these solutions can help streamline your production or R&D environment.
